Title: ROLE OF THEORY AND
SIMULATION IN MATERIALS SCIENCE
Abstract: In this talk, I will emphasize the essential role of
theory and simulation in the investigation of properties of materials. I will
consider the case of magnetic materials for illustration. The combination of
the theory of magnetism, the statistical physics and the simulation is shown to
be very efficient and often unavoidable in the search for the understanding of
experimental results. Several examples of recent investigations are shown. In
particular, I will show some properties of frustrated spin systems, thin films
and Skyrmion crystals.
